John Burns

John Burns moved to NYC from New Mexico in 1991. He studied voice for several years with David Jones. New York performance experience in the 90s was mostly workshop productions of musicals. Working with Ricky Ian Gordon, Steve Alper, Patricia Birch, David Friedman, Jeanine Tessori. He also has been a member of the New York Gay Men’s Chorus and the New Mexico Symphony Chorus.
Starting in 2016 after many years away from performing he began working with music director William Demanio they put together several shows What Are You Waiting For, Gay Kid On A Cattle Ranch, 50 Shades of Gay, Don’t Call Me Sirley John Burns sings Shirley Bassey.
In 2019 John met Lennie Watts and Michael Holland in a Singnasium arrangement class. Later that year they put together John Burns Is A Sexy Beast. John was nominated for a MAC award for that show.
During the pandemic while furloughed from his job, John performed a Kitchen Concert every day and posted it to his social media.
In 2023 John reunited with Michael Holland and created his current show Sock It To Me! John Burns sings the 60s. Working with Farah Alvin as director. John was again nominated for a MAC award.
